Trans-Pecos means "Across the Pecos River"

The checklist on this web site shows the seasonal status and distribution of Trans-Pecos birds. It includes all counties in Texas west of the Pecos River. The exception to this rule is in the southeastern Trans-Pecos where all of Val Verde County has been included.

Currently there  are 491 species recorded from the area outlined in our definition of the Trans-Pecos (620 recognized in Texas). All rarities, in both the book and at this web site, have been screened for state acceptance by the Texas Bird Records Committee.
